Hello

My name is Sandra Suarez. I am an immigrant from the Dominican Republic. When I first started Shining Accounting Services, my goal was to build a strong, reputable accounting firm here in the Shenandoah Valley. I enjoy seeing my community grow, and I plan to keep contributing as much as I can to see it reach its full potential!

My Story

When I first set foot in Harrisonburg in 2003, I was penniless and had no friends in the area. However, since that moment I have been able to meet incredible people and create lasting bonds that still hold to this day. I attended Blue Ridge Community College and received my Associate's Degree in Accounting in 2012. Thanks to a scholarship I received from The Samuel R. Bowman, II Endowed Scholarship [of The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County], I was able to fulfill my dream of pursuing a degree in my field of study here in the United States.

Since my graduation, I have made it a personal mission to contribute to organizations that continue to give back to the Hispanic & Latino community, such as the Shenandoah Valley Scholars Latino Initiative (SVSLI). I love attending fundraisers each year for SVSLI because it connects me with the next generation of Hispanics & Latinos that I'm sure will do more for the Valley than I have been able to accomplish. Knowing that I am able to contribute even a little bit to the educational advancement of a youth in the Hispanic & Latino community fills my heart with joy, because I know firsthand the struggle of making a name for yourself as an Immigrant in this country.

Aside from running my business and contributing to SVSLI, I am mother to three children (which is a full-time job in it of itself). I have two daughters and a son, all in college pursuing their own individual interests, and I am incredibly proud of each and everyone of them.
